Authentic

Some people consider me to be a food snob.  I come from a part of the country where food culture is king.  If it says Gina’s Kitchen outside the restaurant, it’s because Gina is cooking inside the restaurant.  Of all the great foods that Buffalo, NY churns out on a daily basis, none has caught on the way wings have.  Being from Buffalo, I am pretty picky about wings (food snob comments commence).  When I’m in the mood for wings, I want authentic wings.  Below I’ve listed a few things I look for on a menu to help determine if I should even

Tenacity of a Toddler

Recently, I have experienced some setbacks both personally and professionally.  I would like to share one of those with you.  I was scheduled to run a 5k a few weeks ago.  I was diagnosed with lumbar spinal stenosis about the same time I signed up for the run.  I have always been able to push through what every runner knows as “the wall”.  I decided to go for a training run about a week before the event. Instant disappointment!  Not only could I not push through the wall, there was no going around it or over it either.  My back simply

I Can’t Wait!!!

About a week before my wife turned 41, our oldest son called me.  He had been acting quite stressed.  He was calling to share with me what was going on.  I still remember exactly what he said. “You can’t tell anyone what I’m about to tell you, including Mom.”  He knows that’s against the rules so I knew something major was going on.  He continued, “We don’t know for sure, but we think Alyssa might be…”  I cut him off right there.  I was so excited.  I knew he was telling me we were about to be grandparents! I had

Fear Not

During our Wednesday night Bible Study we are studying the Book of Matthew.  In chapter one, while reading about Joseph’s reaction to Mary’s pregnancy, I came across a statement that stood out to me.   At the time of her pregnancy, Mary and Joseph were betrothed, but not married.  Which meant they were still pledged to celibacy.  If Joseph claimed the baby, he would become unrighteous.  If Joseph denied the baby, then Mary would have been guilty of adultery, which was punishable by death. In Matthew 1:19, Joseph decides to put Mary away.  The phrase used “to put her away”

Clanging Symbols and Sounding Brass

A young man had always wanted to know how to get to heaven, but never took the time to learn.  Tired of not knowing, he walked into a local church and began to ask, “How do I get to heaven?” The pastor, who had won many awards for his preaching on heaven, overheard the young man and excitedly rushed up to him, ready to share what he knew.  He said, “Young man, the way to get to heaven is by reading your Bible every day.  Each day read until you can’t stand reading any longer.  In addition to reading your

Love Wins

Opening Perhaps, over the last few days you have seen or heard the statement “Love wins”. This week the Supreme Court of the United States of America, in a landmark decision, declared that all 50 states within our union must offer and honor same sex marriages. It is a decision that some celebrate, as they feel liberated. It is a decision that some rejoice in because their friends and family can now enjoy the same benefits of marriage as defined by law, that they do. It is a decision that has saddened some because they see it as a further
